A Four-Tiered Approach to Change

NSEfD developed a structured, four-tiered advocacy strategy to tackle the challenges — and unlock the opportunities — facing young entrepreneurs in Northern Ghana.
Tier 1 — Policy Engagement and Reform

We engaged directly with policymakers and regulatory bodies, including the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), Food and Drugs Authority (FDA), Ghana Technical and Vocational Education and Training (GTVET), and the Office of the Registrar of Companies (ORC) — alongside 160 NSEN members and 140 members of the public — to push for policies that cut bureaucratic red tape, offer tax exemptions, and create real incentives for startups. This work has helped reform policy and build a more favourable environment for young entrepreneurs.

Tier 2 — Stakeholder Collaboration and Feedback

We ran 2 workshops with the same stakeholders from Tier 1, alongside NSEN members, to gather insight on how well current policies are working and where they fall short. This created a feedback loop that directly shapes our advocacy — with insights carried forward into our radio engagements.

Tier 3 — Empowerment and Advocacy Training

We equip NSEN members with the skills and confidence to advocate for their own needs, through training in advocacy, leadership, and effective communication.

Tier 4 — Public Awareness and Radio Campaigns

Through partnerships with local radio outlets Bishara Radio and Dagbon FM, we've run 20 radio programs raising public awareness of the challenges young entrepreneurs face — building public support for the policy changes championed in Tier 1.
